ARTIST STATEMENT ON POLAR REGIONS
Ana Jurpik
"Melting"

How beautiful the icebergs
will they all melt away
How grand the Polar Bears
do they have a chance to stay

Will the wildlife of the North
become a memory tomorrow
Who will cry for them
who will speak their sorrow

As a human, with my voice
I will ask for those at stake
As an artist, with my brush,
I will show you what can break

To save the North's inhabitants, we will need to do something
To watch the icebergs melt, all we need to do is nothing

Painting: Mary's Mast, Beechey Island, 16" x 20" Oil on Canvas
Collection of Vancouver Maritime Museum
