Bowhead Whale Intestines
Photograph
Bowhead whale intestines wait for transport
to a whaling feast where they will be cut up and eaten. Whaling
captains nail their flag on top of their house to signify they've
caught a whale. When the flag is up it means everyone is invited
to come and join the feast. Usually a plate consists of maktak
(blubber), heart, intestines, meat, gum from the whale's mouth
(also known as Eskimo bubblegum), stewed fruit, Eskimo donuts
(fry bread) and lots of tea. |
