Polar Awareness Award
This month's award is presented to:
Kathy M Haycock
Kathy M Haycock
"There is nothing more enjoyable than sitting within a scene, observing and absorbing intensely...and painting. I like to share my delight in being there, in experiencing nature's gift of the landscape, the weather, wind, light, even movement and sound."

Kathy M Haycock is one of the founders of P.A.G., along with Linda Mackey and Val Russell. All three founders are Arctic Quest artists and recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Northwest Passage with a historic voyage to the High Arctic.

Though self taught, Kathy’s view is strongly influenced by her father, Arctic painter Maurice Haycock, and by his close painting partner of 30 years, A. Y. Jackson. She grew up surrounded by their work and first learned about Canada’s vast land from the paintings they brought back from their numerous sketching trips across Canada.

Kathy was first introduced to the Arctic in 1975, camping for a week at Beechey Island. She has since returned north five more times.

Kathy is announcing the upcoming launch of a new book by an amazing artist/scientist whose life embraced most of the 20th century. The book is about her father, Maurice Hall Haycock, 1900-1988, who lived in the Arctic in 1926-27, painted at the North Pole and is Canada’s most traveled Arctic artist.
