Programs
& Initiatives |
|
 |
The P.A.G. has a number of exciting programs
to serve its members and achieve its goals. Several
new ambitious programs and initiatives are also
planned for the coming months. Following are a list
of current programs already running:
- P.A.G. Web Site - On the
www.PolarArtists.com website, you will find Polar
Art by leading international artists. This website
provides information about international polar
artists, a gallery of their work, updates about
polar science related to IPY, lists of artists
and scientists available for workshops, and a
Teacher’s Corner. This website is linked
to the International IPY website and two artists
per week will be featured on the IPY site during
International Polar Year, providing more opportunity
for exposure for the artist and their work and
vision.
- P.A.G. Polar Awareness Award
- We have created a monthly award to honour members
who, in addition to exhibiting exceptional artistic
talent, are making extraordinary contributions
to promoting awareness of the polar regions.
- Polar Travel - In partnership
with IPY and Arctic Quest, we are planning a voyage
aboard an ice-breaker in 2008. We will have the
opportunity for up to 100 artists and scientists
from circumpolar countries to take the following
voyage:
2008 ARCTIC QUEST, POLAR ARTISTS GROUP, &
IPY:
Voyage of Discovery
Be part of history with POLAR ARTISTS GROUP artists
and IPY scientists as they follow in the footsteps
of great artists and explorers of the past and
create new footsteps for the future. We will visit
the first site of International Polar Year at
Fort Conger (1882) where we will learn how climate
change has affected our planet. In the true history
of Arctic exploration, artists will be encouraged
to sketch and paint along the route. Experience
what attracted Canada’s famous Group of
Seven artists to the High Arctic, as you stand
in the exact spot that Lawren Harris stood in
1930 as he painted Bylot Island. You will also
have the opportunity to participate in building
a cairn in memory of Dr. Maurice Haycock on Alexandra
Fjord next to the cairn he built commemorating
the furtherest north point that his painting partner
and family friend Canadian Group of Seven artist
A.Y. Jackson painted. All artists on this voyage
will be given an official journal/sketchbook and
invited to participate in a juried exhibition
following the voyage.
- Polar Art News - P.A.G. members
can have their latest polar art-related news posted
on the site under NEWS & EVENTS
- Polar Science News - you can
easily see the latest scientific research and
concerns relating to the Polar Regions as well
as opportunities to work with scientists
- E-Newsletter - A monthly E-Newsletter
will be distributed to galleries around the world,
museums, media, and members highlighting news,
as well as the Monthly Polar Awareness Award winner.
- Education - P.A.G. will provide
member artist with updates on latest scientific
findings and research in the polar regions, effects
of climate change, etc. Through the Teacher’s
Corner on the website, class plans will be available
with an emphasis on learning science through art
projects. Regional and national workshops pairing
artists and scientists will be listed on the site.
Winner of contests may have an opportunity to
travel with artists and scientists on expedition
trips.
- Polar Art Community Calendar
- P.A.G. members events can be posted to the EVENTS
calendar.
- Special Projects include:
- Books & television/film documentaries
- P.A.G. members can apply for artist-in-residence
