Nordic Journey's Preview
I invite you to the preview of my art exhibit this Thursday, May 1st, 6pm - 8:30pm at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, WA. My paintings of Greenland will be on display along with Caryl Utigard's Birds of Iceland and Eliot O'Hara's Watercolors of Norway through June 1st. On May 13 at 7pm, I will give a presentation about my time in Greenland.
WORKSHOP: NATURE'S PAGES
There is still space available for my North Cascades Institute "Nature's Pages" workshop. We will create our own journals using simple bookbinding techniques and explore the Puget Sound coastline through art. View the course description for more information and to register.
In other news, I am enjoying my time painting on Bainbrige Island and plan to move back to Seattle in mid-June. I am updating my journal and invite you to check out my endeavors!
I hope all is well and I'd love to hear from you. Maria

France Auzias, Pierre A. C.
Gallery SPOT features the painter Pierre Auzias, the photographer Martin Lehmann and the filmmaker Bertrand Lozay in the art installation:
Slush!
- artistic reflections on the increasing global temperature in Greenland.
Launching Saturday, March 1. From 2 - 5 pm. The exhibition runs to March 30, 2008.
Open weekdays from 13-17, Wednesday closed. Saturday 11-14. Sunday 13-16.

The exhibition operates in two levels, connecting both to the physical gallery space as well as to the social and psychological space of Greenland. By embracing a variety of different media and symbolic effects, the exhibition demonstrates current identity and environmental issues in Greenland.
During the opening show Pierre Auzias is working in an interdisciplinary manner, creating a site specific installation. Auzias´ act is recorded live by the filmmaker Malene Bloch. After the show, Bloch´s film will be monitored in the gallery.

Martin Lehmann´s (DK) photographic series turns its lens towards the life of the hunter Johannes Marthæusen. Marthæusen´s life and daily hunting patterns are severely being challenged by the evolving destruction of the climatic balance in Greenland.
Bertrand Lozay´s (FR) film Don´t walk this line is a report on the common, every day act of walking. However, in Greenland the terrain sets different standards and challenges. Using simple camera equipment, the film describes the danger and uncanny side of hiking in the icy landscape, where landmarks are dissolving due to the increasing global temperature.
Pierre Auzias´(DK/FR) paintings are a tribute to the people and landscape of Greenland. On a regular basis, Auzias has been traveling Greenland since 1994. His paintings are rooted in a registration of the visual and mentally changes of locations, sites and community in Greenland.

Following speech is free and open to the public:
Tuesday, March 19. At Gallery SPOT. 7 pm.
Filmmaker Bertrand Lozay: Creating the film Don´t walk this line.

Having launched over 70 exhibitions, Gallery SPOT is well established nationally and is located in the Northern part of Sjælland, Denmark.

CLIMATE CHANGE | It's jeopardizing more than southern farmlands and northern ice fields. By taking away our Canadian winter, it's endangering our very identity, writes Leah Sandals.
Painting by Valerie RussellThis Toronto Star article profiles artists working in the polar regions to raise awareness about Climate Change. It mentions David Buckland, director of Cape Farewell, and the Polar Artists Group which was established by Linda Mackey, director of Arctic Quest. Also mentioned, is Polar Artist Val Russell, whose painting, Waiting for the Ice to Form (shown) was featured in the January 7, 2007 printed edition. Both Cape Farewell and PAG are endorsed International Polar Year (IPY) projects. Polar Artists Group has been established in association with IPY.
